SNP College cuts bite.

Here’s some hard facts on the SNP’s record of cuts in Further Education.

They are all taken from the Colleges Scotland - Key facts sheet and they provide some pretty shocking reading:

Colleges Scotland – Key Facts 2014

Number of students

2009/10 – 347,336

2010/11 – 305,969

2011/12 – 257,913

2012/13 – 238,805

Drop in student numbers in 3 years - 108,531

Overseas students -

2009/10 – 3,659

2010/11 – 2,689

2011/12 – 1,672

2012/13 – 1,670

Drop in overseas student numbers in 3 years – 1,989 – over a 50% drop

Hours of learning –

2009/10 – 83.4m

2010/11 – 82.8m

2011/12 – 78.4m

2012/13 – 73.7m

Drop in learning hours in 3 years - 9.7 million (10 million college learning hours gone in 3 years)

Total Staff in Colleges

2009/10 – 20,686

2010/11 – 19,546

2011/12 – 14,711

2012/13 – 13,761

Drop in total staff numbers in 3 years – 6,925

Teaching staff to student ratio – 5,044: 238,805 / 1: 47

So the SNP Government have cut 10 million hours of learning from colleges over the last three years. 73.7 million hours were provided in 2012/2013 – 9.7 million down on 2009/10.

The same figures show student numbers have dropped by 108,531 and staff numbers have dropped by 6,925.

How can young people in Scotland put their future in the SNP’s hands with this disgraceful record? The SNP has targeted our colleges for cuts and the consequence has been young people and second-chance learners being denied opportunities to get on in life.
