Iain Gray for Scotland!

Profuse apologies for the slow blogging of late. That is inpart due to the appalling customer service of Sky Broadband, but mostly down to the incredible amount of work and preparation involved in getting Iain’s campaign up and running…

I have a hundred reasons why I’m backing Iain, some of them are based on personal loyalities but most are based on the fact that Iain is not just the best candidate within the Labour Party, but the person best equipped to take on Alex Salmond.

Iain is offering a new voice and a fresh start for the Scottish Labour Party. And he has an advantage over the others by the very nature of the fact that people know less about him than they do Cathy and Andy. I would argue strongly that it is to Iain’s advantage that people don’t yet know about his 7 years as a teacher and his 12years as Campaigns Director for Oxfam in Scotland.

Iain was in Chile three days after General Pinochet left office, in Rwanda two months after the genocide and in the refuge camps of Eastern Zaire where the survivers fled in their hundreds of thousands. He has worked in the minefields of Cambodia and in Zimbabwean villages simply decimated by HIV/AIDs.

As Scotland’s Oxfam Campaigns Director for twelve years, Iain has witnessed people in the most incredible hardship and despair working together to build a better life for themselves, their families and their communities. The experience gave Iain his passion to tackle injustice and inequality and the conviction that no matter how bad things are, hope drives good people towards a better future.

I firmly believe that Iain has the intellectual capacity, the political commitment and the leadership ability to drive Scottish Labour with renewed political momentum and fresh policies.

The launch of his campaign is tomorrow, so I’ll leave it there for now!
